Hyosung is developing a 250cc off-road bike especially for India. The bike will be called as RT250D and will be an elder sibling to the already existing RT125D which is sold globally. We expect it to hit Indian shores sometime between March and May 2013 and it will be assembled locally.
Meanwhile, to add momentum to its ambitious plans, Garware Motors has set up another plant – a Greenfield project spread across 25 acres in Wai, near Pune. The company has spent Rs 65 crore (excluding the cost of land) in setting up this second facility. The new plant will have three assembly lines that will churn out 10 bikes per line, per shift, per day and will be operational soon to assemble the upcoming GT250R sportsbike and the stylish GV650 cruiser. Garware-Hyosung is also contemplating establishing an engine assembly setup at their second plant to reduce costs and a concrete decision is expected in near future. Taking its pan-India footprint to 18, Garware recently added three more cities – Coimbatore, Aizawl and Guwahati –to its dealership network.
