Auto Expo 2014: Chevrolet reveals Adra compact SUV concept

New Chevrolet Adra compact SUV concept is likely to rival Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.

Chevrolet took the wraps off a new concept compact SUV called the Adra. This new concept is to be based on General Motors’ global small-vehicle platform, also called Gamma 2. The concept was developed entirely by Indian designers at GM’s technical centre in Bangalore, India.

The new Chevrolet Adra will be pegged against the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. We’re not sure what engine will power the production car, but it is likely that it will feature a tweaked version of the same 77bhp 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine from the Chevrolet Sail and Enjoy. The Adra looks quite macho and yet so sleek at the same time. GM’s designers have done a good job of blending sleek styling and neat lines into the rugged silhouette.

Lowell Paddock, GM India president and managing director stated that this concept represents a “new possibility for the carmaker” in the fast-growing compact segment.

Interestingly, GM India already has a compact SUV, the Trax, but since it’s designed with European customers in mind, the Trax is 4.2 metres long. This means it won’t qualify for the excise benefits here, and can’t be priced competitively.

    Also at the Chevrolet stand:

Chevrolet also launched its updated Beat hatchback at the stall. The mild facelift features new bumpers, new mirrors, a new rear spoiler with LED inserts, and re-profiled head- and tail-lights. In addition, football fans will love the Beat on display that is finished in Manchester United colours. Prices for the facelifted Beat start from Rs 4.06 lakh for the base petrol and go up to Rs 6.10 lakh for the 1.0 TCDi (Option Pack) top diesel (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi). There are a total of 10 variants available on the facelifted Beat.

The Chevrolet Corvette is no stranger to the auto enthusiast and the new Corvette C7 Stingray looked stunning at the stall, sure to grab quite a bit of attention when the show opens to the public. That’s not all, battling with the Corvette for your attention, is a Chevrolet Camaro. Low, long and loud, the Camaro is a car you just can’t afford to miss. No dearth of muscle power at this stand.
