Auto Expo 2014: Ford Fiesta sedan facelift revealed

The Ford Fiesta sedan gets a major styling revision with a number of nips and tucks to help make it look more modern. There’s an almost Aston Martin-like front grille, a new, differently contoured bonnet and attractive new headlamps. The tail section got a lot of flak for its ‘pinched’ look, and the larger tail-lamps and other revisions make a big difference here. The interiors remain unchanged, although the cabin now has a lighter two tone trim. The seat fabric is all new, and in terms of equipment, there is the a more advanced version of the Ford Sync connectivity system, which now includes something called AppLink. The engines will remain unaltered, with the current Fiesta’s 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel carried over.

The Ford Fiesta hasn’t fared well since its launch and despite a price cut, sales haven’t picked up for the saloon either. On average, the car’s monthly sales just about reach double-digit figures, with the car selling a paltry 564 units in the last six months. However, thanks to the success of the Ford EcoSport – with which the Fiesta shares a platform, two of its engines and lots of parts – the economies of scale should allow Ford to price this updated sedan more aggressively. With this facelift, Ford will be looking to revive the Fiesta name and take another crack at the mid-size saloon segment when the car is launched later this year.

Ford also showcased a mildly refreshed Endeavour at the show. The 2014 Endeavour comes with a mildly tweaked front section, new alloys, and now features cruise control on the top two variants.
