Bajaj Auto keeps Chakan plant strike at bay

The newly announced wage hike will be transferred to workers in a phased manner, the management has stated.

Bajaj Auto has been witnessing worker union trouble for some time now. The automaker was recently faced with another threat of a strike from the workers at the Chakan plant near Pune. However, the strike that was supposed to be underway from Sunday morning, over wages, was postponed temporarily.

Bajaj Auto’s management put up a notice announcing a hike of Rs 10,000 for workmen with over five years of experience, which the management claims to be the best hike in the Chakan industrial belt. This hike will be transferred to workers in a phased manner, the management stated.

Bajaj Auto said, the decision was taken after observing the hardships faced by the workers. Dilip Pawar, President of Vishwakalyan Kamgar Sanghatana (VKS), a union officially recognized by Bajaj Auto management, stated that the workers had been demanding an increase in wage, among other issues for a while.
