BMW has now brought the S1000R to India, a street-naked motorcycle that looks like a stripped-off version of the S1000RR, posing an aggressive stance with asymmetrical dual headlights typical of BMW. Overall styling inspired from its race version, the S1000RR, remains unchanged, except for the radiator shrouds that replace the fairing, partly covering the engine.

The S1000R carries the same powerplant that powers the RR, which is a four-stroke, 999cc, liquid/oil-cooled, in-line four-cylinder engine. However, based on the roles that both bikes are designed to cater to, there is a change in the delivery of peak power and torque figures. Being a street-naked, the S1000R is re-tuned to offer 160bhp of maximum power at 11000rpm, 33bhp less than the S1000RR, with similar peak torque output of 11.4kgm made at 9250rpm, 500revs lower than the RR.

Weighing at 207 kilograms, the bike is built around an aluminium frame, with upside-down telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock bolted on to an alloy swingarm. For stopping power, BMW has offered 320mm front discs and a 220mm rear disc with switchable ABS as standard.

The S1000R can be yours for Rs 22.83 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), with three colours to choose from — red, blue and white. Based on the availability of the bike and colour, the waiting period can range from a week to a month.
