Indian Motorcycles showroom inaugurated in Bengaluru

Indian Motorcycle showroom is now open for business on Infantry Road, Bengaluru. The new dealership will also offer after-sales service for the American-built motorcycles. At the launch, Indian Motorcycle also unveiled two new motorcycles in India — the Dark Horse and the Roadmaster.

The two new motorcycles will join the existing ones on sale in India, taking the count to a strong six motorcycle line-up from its four families. The four families are, the ‘Scout’, the ‘Cruiser’ —including the Dark Horse and the Classic, the ‘Bagger’ — including the Vintage and the Chieftain, and the ‘Touring’ family, now including the top-of-the-line Roadmaster. 

Pankaj Dubey, M.D., Polaris India said, “As far as Indian is concerned, we will be present in 12 different locations in India by end of 2016. Four new dealerships will be up and running before August 15, 2015. The first of which will be a Mumbai dealership, followed by Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. We are confident of the quality of our products on offer and we will launch every new motorcycle model here as they are launched globally. We will organise rides also for our clients. In terms of sales numbers, we have almost touched our target which was to capture 10 percent of the Indian premium motorcycle segment, which we term as motorcycles over 20 lakh rupees.”

Let’s take a look at each motorcycle.

Indian Scout: Indian launched the Scout globally last year. A motorcycle that gained popularity from the time it was first launched in the 1920s, the Scout today is equipped with the first liquid-cooled engine from the American manufacturer.

The Scout is not an extra-large cruiser in size, but is rather small, somewhat the size of a Harley-Davidson 48. Although a cruiser, the Scout follows the new formula that brands are adopting — to modernise their cruisers, drawing away from the generalised old-school look. For instance, the cast alloy chassis is light, and the front-end cleverly integrates the radiator. The engine here acts as a stressed member, the rear cast alloy sub-frame is also hard andis mounted on the engine. The Scout uses a 1,133cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled and V-twin cylinder engine. It produces 100bhp of power and 10kgm of peak torque is produced at 5,900rpm. The Indian Scout cost Rs 12,21,900 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).

Indian Chief Dark Horse: Unveiled in India for the first time at Indians’ Bengaluru showroom, the Dark Horse is Indian’s take on a cruiser with a rebellious character. In profile, the bike is just a mix of matte black and chromed body parts. The handlebars, mirrors, the front fender, engine, seat, and the rear fender are all finished in black with chromed accents flowing smartly through the bike. The Dark Horse is powered by 1,811cc, four-stroke, V-twin and air-cooled engine, developing 14.16kgm of torque at 2,600rpm. Suspension duties are carried out by telescopic front forks, and an adjustable, pneumatic single shock does duty at rear. Braking is carried out by ABS-equipped disc brakes up front and a single disc brake at rear.The Indian Dark Horse costs Rs 22,40,000 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).

Indian Chief Classic:The name itself suggests what this avatar of Indian’s is made to be — a classic cruiser with retro looks and part contemporary design. Here the Chief gets chromed motorcycle parts such as its front headlamps, telescopic front forks, engine and the dual exhaust pipes. The Classic also gets white wall tyres and wire spoke wheels to go with its classic design and a keyless ignition system also. The Classic is powered by a ‘Thunder Stroke 111’ motor that equals to 1,811cc, four-stroke, V-twin and air-cooled engine, developing 14.16kgm of torque at 2,600rpm.

For braking duty, the Indian Chief Classic uses dual ABS-equipped brakes up front and a single one at rear. Suspension duty is carried out by telescopic front forks and a monoshock at rear. The Indian Chief Classic is priced at Rs 25,95,000 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).

Indian Chief Vintage: The Vintage is a well-equipped cruiser that makes a statement, and can be considered to be the best-looking Indian motorcycles on sale today, globally. The Vintage is styled to resemble bikes from an earlier era — not aggressive and typically grand looking. The bike is available in five colour options, a few of which are not seen on any other motorcycle today, including the light green and off-white dual colour scheme. Apart from that, the bike gets a really tall and basic looking quick-release windscreen, an ideal accessory to help one cruise comfortably along the highway. The Vintage also gets a healthy dose of chrome just like the Classic, up front on its headlight unit, the engine and the dual exhaust pipes. White wall tyres and spoke wheels also make way here. The seat, a well-contoured and genuine leather unit matches the leather panniers, mounted side by side here. The bike is equipped with cruise-control and keyless start function also. The engine here is a 1,811cc, four-stroke, V-twin and air-cooled engine, developing 14.16kgm of torque at 2,600rpm.

Indian Chieftain:This revolutionized Indian Motorcycles in a way, because it was the first motorcycle by the American brand to come with a hard fairing and hard saddlebags. The fairing is equipped with a push-to-adjust windscreen and an audio system. This motorcycle gets alloy wheels and rubber coated and wide footboards.

The bike also gets a system to maintain ambient air temperature, and a front and rear tyre pressure display system. Keyless bike start system too makes way here, with Bluetooth-enabled mobile connectivity. Power comes from a 1,811cc, four-stroke, V-twin and air-cooled engine, developing 14.16kgm of torque at 2,600rpm. The Indian Chieftain uses dual ABS-equipped brakes up front and a single one at rear. Suspension duty is carried out by telescopic front forks and a monoshock at rear. The Indian Chieftain is priced at Rs 32,57,000 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).

Indian Roadmaster: The top-of-the-line Indian Roadmaster could be termed as a luxury cruiser because it offers many features offered on four-wheelers. The Roadmaster gets cruise control, keyless start, a push-button adjust windscreen, genuine leather seats and remote lockable hard saddle bags. The Roadmaster also features a lockable trunk with additional storage space, which serves as a back rest for the pillion. The bike gets a 200-watt stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity for smart phones. Indian also provides heated rider and passenger seats with heated grips and adjustable passenger floorboards to enhance pillion comfort. The engine here is a 1,811cc, four-stroke, V-twin and air-cooled engine, developing 14.16kgm of torque at 2,600rpm. The Indian Roadmaster uses dual ABS-equipped brakes up front and a single one at rear. Suspension duty is carried out by telescopic front forks and a monoshock at rear. The Indian Roadmaster is priced at Rs 37,15,000 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru)
