Volkswagen has begun work on an all-new sedan based on the upcoming Polo hatchback which will likely see a global unveil in March this year.
While the current-generation Polo-based sedan (Vento for India) is sold in select markets only, the next-gen sedan is likely to be sold in more countries, especially in markets like Brazil, where it will replace the Volkswagen Voyage sedan which is based on an outdated PQ24 platform that dates back to 1999.
The next-gen Polo sedan, like the upcoming Polo hatchback will be based on VW’s new MQB A0 architecture which will also underpin an all-new SUV in future. The first set of spy photos of fully camouflaged models has emerged from Brazil which gives us a basic hint of what the next-gen Vento will be like. It is likely to have a 2,560mm wheelbase which is 7mm more than the current model. This marginal increase in wheelbase is likely to translate into better rear legroom.
Under the hood, the new Polo sedan is likely to carry over the same set of engines as the current model with incraesed amount of localisaiton, so expect a 1.5-litre diesel engine, a 1.2-litre TSI petrol for India and larger capacity petrol engines for the international markets like Russia and Brazil.
