To cash in on the rapidly growing scooter segment of the Indian two-wheeler market, TVS has launched their new automatic transmission equipped 110cc scooter, the Jupiter, alongside the TVS Wego, Scooty Pep Plus and Streak models.
We’ve already brought you numerous pre-launch spy pictures of the Jupiter wearing camouflage, a scooter that offers a raft of features including a pass light flasher, low-fuel warning light and patented ‘Econometer’, to help riders extract the best fuel efficiency from their scooter. Other features include retractable front and under-seat bag hooks, a spacious under seat storage area and under-seat mobile charging point. As revealed by Autocar India back this July, the Jupiter comes with a fuel filler located at the rear of the scooter, ensuring you don’t have to get off and hold the seat up when tanking up at a petrol station. The Jupiter comes with a fuel-tank capacity of five litres.
The Jupiter will be powered by the same 110cc, 8bhp engine that powers the Wego.
A gas-charged rear shock absorber is standard fitment, as are LED tail-lamps and twin city lamps.
The list of running gear is impressive, with telescopic fork front suspension in addition to gas-charged rear suspension as mentioned earlier. Smart matte-finished 12-inch black rims with tubeless tyres round off the package, although a front disc brake option has been given a miss for now.
TVS’s new Jupiter will be available in four colours, grey, white, black and red. The scooter will first be launched across North India at Rs 44,200, (ex-showroom, Delhi), and reaches South India this November, after the monsoons. Its price positions the Jupiter squarely versus industry leader, Honda’s Activa.
