Kawasaki has just revealed a few details of its upcoming 2019 Ninja ZX-6R. The supersport motorcycle has been redesigned and receives updated electronics.

The styling of the 2019 Ninja ZX-6R borrows elements from the Ninja 400. Like on the Ninja 400, the pointy, full-LED headlamp face is in line with Kawasaki's new design language and there’s more than a hint of the H2 and Ninja 400 at the front. The bike also has new fairings and decals that help separate it from the older model. A sharply-raked tail completes its aggressive design.

The redesigned instrument cluster on the ZX-6R now displays an economical riding indicator, fuel gauge and remaining range function. Along with this, the motorcycle also gets a 12V power socket. While Kawasaki has not revealed more details about the motorcycle, we carried a story on leaked specifications for the 2019 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R some time back. The story revealed that the 2019 bike will make 128hp at 13,500rpm – 1hp down from the outgoing bike. However, this figure is still more impressive than the Euro IV (BS-IV) figures of the new Yamaha R6 which dropped 5hp, going from 122hp to 117hp to meet the emission target.

According to the leaked details, the new ABS-equipped 2019 ZX-6R will weigh 196kg, as compared to the 194kg of the outgoing ABS-equipped model. The increase in weight is due to the heavier catalytic converter.

There is also a drop in the top speed; while the older model did 260kph, the upcoming model is rated at 248kph. This is likely down due to a change in gearing, which means that even though top speed has reduced, the rate of acceleration may actually be quicker.

We believe this motorcycle could make it to India in 2019 thanks to the potential new import norms that will allow manufacturers to import 2,500 vehicles a year to our country without the need for homologation, as long as they conform to a recognised international homologation body. The new ZX-6R's launch is also well-timed to meet our upcoming emissions norms, which are due to change soon. Stay tuned to Autocar India for more details.
