QUESTION: I travel around 1,500km a month and plan to buy a new car within a Rs 6 - 6.5 lakh budget. I have the Fabia diesel in mind. Would a 1.2 be good given my monthly mileage?
AAA: The Fabia 1.2 petrol, though cheaper than the Fabia diesel, will not give you savings in the long run because the petrol is not terribly efficient and will give you just 10-12kpl in the city depending on your driving style. The Fabia diesel on the other hand is significantly more fuel efficient and will also have better resale value which will offset its high price. However, if you don’t like the Fabia diesel, then you could consider the Getz diesel which is much more refined than the Fabia.
If you can wait till June, then it would be worth considering the Fiat Grande Punto, which will come with the well-proven
1.3 Multijet diesel. It promises huge space and good economy.
