The strong-hybrid variant gets additonal features over even the top-spec mild-hybrid version, which could be compelling for some buyers.

I've pre-booked the top-spec Grand Vitara Smart Hybrid auto but I have the option to switch to the Intelligent Electric Hybrid version once the prices are announced. The car will be used for city duties and will be chauffeur-driven during the week, and self-driven on weekends. Is it worth opting for the strong Hybrid version?

Autocar India says: Without knowing the prices or reviewing the vehicle, it will be difficult to give a definitive suggestion. But going by the company's claimed figures of 27.97kpl, the strong hybrid is likely to be very fuel efficient, and you will surely benefit from lower fuel bills. Having said that, the strong hybrid will be pricier than the mild hybrid, and the initial premium for marginally lower running costs might not make financial sense.
However with the strong hybrid you get all-black interiors, additional features like ventilated seats, wireless charger, HUD and puddle lamps are reserved for the Alpha Plus variant, as well as the feel-good factor of driving around a cleaner and low-polluting vehicle with modern Hybrid technology. So go for the Hybrid if the black interiors, added features and its intangible benefits excite you, else the mild hybrid could be a more practical pick.
