After serving us well for nearly two decades, it is time to retire our Hyundai Santro for a 7-seater petrol-automatic SUV. After test-driving multiple cars, we've shortlisted the Alcazar 1.5 Turbo DCT and MG Hector Plus 1.5 Turbo CVT. My family is more inclined towards the MG, however, the Alcazar variant that we're considering is nearly Rs 2.5 lakh cheaper. Can you suggest which is the better SUV, and what fuel efficiency we can expect in peak Pune traffic?

Autocar India says: Both Alcazar and Hector Plus are competent 5-seaters but their third rows are suited for short adults or kids, for occasional use only, so if it is a proper 7-seater you want, then a Kia Carens will probably be a better bet. Between the options you have shortlisted, the recently updated MG Hector Plus has a newer, plusher interior, and it feels more spacious and comfier in the middle row. It also offers a cushier ride. The Alcazar's new turbo-petrol engine and dual-clutch automatic combination offers stronger performance and the Hyundai is better to drive. Expect single-digit fuel economy from both these in the city, with the Hyundai's being slightly higher on account of its lighter kerb weight and more effortless performance. So if you want comfort and a luxurious cabin, go for the Hector Plus, else the Alcazar is better to drive and, as you mentioned, it is more affordable too.
