In a steadily growing EV market teeming with options, Mahindra has once again asserted itself as a major disruptor with the upcoming BE 6e and XEV 9e Electric Origin SUVs. Enticing enthusiasts and the everyday motorist alike, the Indian automotive giant has teased us with glimpses of both vehicles, which are set to debut on the 26th of November, 2024. With these models, Mahindra aims to establish a dominant presence in India’s mainstream EV market.
The BE 6e and XEV 9e are part of Mahindra’s vision to produce vehicles that are designed as electric vehicles from the ground up. The bespoke INGLO EV platform is set to distinguish Mahindra from its rivals, offering vehicles engineered with electric mobility in mind right from their inception.
If the teasers are any indication, the BE 6e and XEV 9e will feature strikingly futuristic designs. The XEV 9e, with its massive eSUV-coupe silhouette, will likely command attention on the road. A sharply sculpted front fascia, illuminated accents, and a blanked-out grille announce its forward-thinking ethos. Slim LED headlamps and an aggressive rear light bar further amplify the vehicle’s sci-fi persona.
On the other hand, the BE 6e leans towards minimalism but with an edge. This smaller sibling takes a more angular approach, featuring geometric shapes and taut body lines that exude modernity. The seamless integration of its flush door handles and aerodynamically optimised wheels ensure a clean, progressive design that wouldn’t look out of place in a Black Mirror episode.
When it comes to technology, the BE 6e and XEV 9e are packed to the gills with as much tech as you can imagine. Mahindra has gone all out to equip these eSUVs with features that redefine what it means to be connected on the road. The pièce de résistance of the XEV 9e is the mighty triple-screen display that sprawls across the dashboard. This futuristic arrangement ensures that both the driver and passengers have access to critical information and entertainment at their fingertips.
Safety and assistance systems also take a quantum leap forward with a Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Equipped with 5 radars, 11 sensors, and a 360-degree camera, these eSUVs offer adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and driver monitoring systems that enhance safety while reducing fatigue. The additional in-car cameras also keep an eye on occupants, ensuring comfort and security for everyone inside.
Speaking of infotainment, Mahindra has pulled out all the stops with a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, tuned to perfection with Dolby Atmos for an unparalleled auditory experience. Whether it’s your favourite playlist or an immersive podcast, the sound quality promises to rival a high-end home theatre system.
What’s an EV without performance that packs a punch? Should you choose to lift the bonnet of either eSUV, be prepared to find a whole load of nothing (or, more storage – hurray!) because the hearts of these beasts lie in their batteries and motors. Powered by two battery options; a 60kWh and a 80kWh pack, you’ll have the raw power of more than 250 horses at the tap of your right foot. Having 250 horses at your disposal is no lean feat though because, with figures like these, the BE 6e and XEV 9e are poised to be the fastest eSUVs ever to be developed by an Indian OEM. Plus, both models will be rear-wheel driven, adding to their driving dynamics and ever-growing excitement.
With the BE 6e and XEV 9e, Mahindra is poised to redefine the EV segment with bold designs, cutting-edge technology, and robust performance. Both vehicles promise to captivate consumers and enthusiasts, while Mahindra’s entry into this space is sure to catch the attention of its competitors. These models are more than just new additions to Mahindra’s portfolio—they represent the company’s commitment to innovation and its adaptability to the rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
As the 26th of November draws nearer, one thing is clear: Mahindra’s electric future is not only bright - it’s audaciously bold. Stay tuned for the ‘Unlimit India’ event on the 26th of November where all will finally be revealed.
