Suzuki has recently launched the GSX-8R in India. Here’s how it stacks up against its closest rival, Triumph’s Daytona 660.

Suzuki broke cover of the GSX-8R at EICMA 2023 with the sale of the motorcycle beginning in 2024. The GSX-8R has now made its way to India and we'll be comparing it to the Triumph Daytona 660 that is currently its closest rival.

One of the key differences between the two bikes is the number of cylinders their motors have. While the GSX-8R has a 776cc parallel-twin, the Daytona is equipped with an inline three-cylinder engine. The GSX-8R makes much more torque while the Daytona 660 makes more power. Both bikes have a 6 speed gearbox that is equipped with a bi-directional quickshifter.

As shown in the table above, both bikes share nearly identical specifications, including a seat height of 810mm and a fuel tank capacity of 14 liters. The GSX-8R has a slightly longer 1465mm wheelbase compared to the Daytona's 1425mm. However, the Daytona 660 has a slight weight advantage over the GSX-8R as it weighs 4kgs lighter.

Both bikes are equipped with similar components, featuring Showa upside-down separate function big piston forks and Showa monoshocks. They’re also equipped with dual 310mm front discs, though the GSX-8R has a slightly larger rear brake disc. Both ride on 17-inch wheels with similar profiles, but the Daytona comes fitted with higher-quality Michelin Power 6 tyres, while the Suzuki GSX-8R uses Dunlop Roadsport 2 tyres.

The final difference is the price of the motorcycles. Although both bikes are sold via the CKD route, the Daytona 660 being an European manufactured motorcycle is slightly more affordable than the Japanese made GSX-8R.
