Electric Vehicles (EVs) are among the quickest on the road, barring a few hypercars and supercars. EVs are quick off the line as electric motors generate maximum torque from standstill. Here, we have compiled a list of 10 EV with the quickest claimed 0-100kph time. While some models have multiple powertrains, we are considering the quickest accelerating version of each.
0-100kph time: 6.1 seconds (claimed)
Price: Rs 1.15 crore (ex-showroom, India)
Another EV from BMW's stable in India is the iX SUV that was launched before the i4. It sets itself apart with its bold styling and interiors. It is also the flagship EV in the German carmaker’s portfolio and gets a 76.6kWh battery, giving it an ARAI-certified range of 446km. The India-spec iX comes in the sole XDrive 40 variant that uses dual-electric motors and produces a combined 326hp and 630Nm of torque.

Price: Rs 69.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India)
The BMW i4 has a WLTP-certified range of 590km, possible due to the 89.3kWh battery pack that makes it the highest among all EVs in the country. Its single electric motor delivers power to the rear wheels, and produces 340hp and 430Nm of torque.
Currently, the BMW i4 has no rivals in our market, and costs Rs 4 lakh and Rs 5 lakh more than the BMW M340i and the more premium 5 Series, respectively.

Price: Rs 1.17 crore-1.19 crore (ex-showroom, India)
Audi sells another EV here, the e-tron SUV, and it comes in two body styles – SUV and coupe Sportback. Audi also offers two variants, the 50 quattro which gets two electric motors producing a combined 313hp and 540Nm, while the 55 quattro gets dual-electric motors that churn out 408hp and 664Nm of torque. The former packs a smaller 71kWh battery, while the latter gets a larger 95kWh battery.

Kia introduced its electric vehicle line-up with a stylish, premium crossover, the EV6. It comes with a 77.4kWh battery that gives it a claimed range of up to 528km on the WLTP cycle. It is available with a single-motor in rear-wheel drive configuration and dual-motor with all-wheel drive setup. The latter makes 325hp, 650Nm, and is the quicker of the two, while the single motor variant makes 229hp and 350Nm of torque

Mercedes-Benz’s other EV on sale is the EQC SUV, which launched in 2020. Based on the same platform as the GLC, it packs an 85kWh battery with a claimed range of up to 400km on the WLTP cycle. Power is sent through dual-electric motors – one on each axle – and they have a combined output of 408hp and 765Nm.

Volvo’s first electric vehicle, the XC40 Recharge, is a pretty sprightly vehicle as its dual motors – one on each axle – develop 408hp and 660Nm of torque. The 74kWh battery pack is capable to provide a claimed range of up to 418km, on the WLTP cycle. The XC40 Recharge makes for an ideal city car, thanks to its compact dimensions, and comes loaded with equipment.

Jaguar’s only electric car in India, the I-Pace, is also pretty capable as it packs a 90kWh battery with a claimed range of up to 480km on the WLTP cycle. Its dual-electric motors produces 400hp and 696Nm of torque. The I-Pace looks quite unconventional with its cab-forward design, stubby nose and relatively low ride height. It was also crowned the World Car of the Year in 2019.

Price: Rs 2.45 crore (ex-showroom, India)
Mercedes-AMG’s first all-electric model – EQS 53 4Matic+ – is also the most expensive EV on sale in India. It has a claimed range of up to 580km, but this doesn't come at the cost of performance. In India, the EQS 53 gets the Dynamic Plus pack as standard and produces 761hp in Race Start mode. Maximum torque is rated at 1,020Nm.

Price: Rs 1.89 crore (ex-showroom, India)
Audi e-tron GT comes in two variants – the standard e-tron GT and the performance-oriented RS e-tron GT, with the latter being quicker and producing 646hp. The e-tron GT gets a two-speed gearbox, with a short first gear for quick acceleration and the long-ratio second gear for efficiency. Both models pack a 93kWh battery and Audi claims the RS e-tron GT has a range of up to 481km, on the WLTP cycle.
Piloted by Autocar India Road Test Editor Saumil Shah, the Audi RS e-tron GT set a quarter mile time of 11.110 seconds – the quickest ever recorded by an unmodified car in India – at the Drag Star Night Race organised by Elite Octane Inc. This makes the EV sedan the quickest accelerating production car in India, as per our tests.

The Porsche Taycan has seven variants in total. The top-of-the-line Taycan Turbo S produces 761hp and 1,050Nm of torque, making it one of the fastest EVs on sale in India. The top variant of the Taycan has a WLTP combined range of up to 417km. While the lower variants of the Taycan pack a 79.2kWh battery as standard, the larger 93.4kWh battery pack is optional. The Taycan Turbo and Turbo S variants get the 93.4kWh battery as standard.
