Honda is considering the possibility of launching the HR-V SUV in India.
The HR-V will sit between the BR-V and the range-topping CR-V when it goes on sale in India with prices expected to start at around Rs 16 lakh.
The HR-V, along with the tenth-gen Civic and new Accord Hybrid, is Honda's attempt to push itself as a premium player in the market.
The HR-V is more of a crossover than a full-fledged SUV and is based on the same platform as the Jazz and City.
The HR-V follows a similar design language as other new Hondas, though chrome is used to a much lesser extent on the front fascia.
Other exterior design quirks include C-pillar-mounted door handles and a receding roofline giving the SUV an almost coupé-like profile.
The HR-V has a similar cabin layout to the Jazz and while it is space efficient, it isn’t as spacious as other cars in the same price range.
The HR-V is expected to be offered with Honda’s 120hp, 1.6-litre diesel engine. A petrol option is also likely.
The 1.6-litre diesel will be specifically tuned for India and will also get the added benefit of local assembly with the unit already being built in India for the UK.
