Despite the narrow tyres, cornering grip is good but there is noticeable body roll. The ride feels quite mature. Engines are phenomenally tractable, in 3rd gear the petrol can go all the way from 15kph to over 150kph! Alloys look smart, but wheels are too small for the wheel wells. 3D surfacing adds character. The 9 LED array looks striking. A segment-first lane watch camera is offered in the new City. The new City gets a DOHC 1.5-litre petrol engine. Diesel engine refinement better but still not segment-leading. Dashboard is well laid out and looks nice and premium, but the plastics are a bit too shiny; would have preferred duller, soft-touch textures. Dim screen, hard to see in the day. The lane-change camera is a handy feature. Boot capacity is now 506 litres. Dials turn with a satisfying click. The cruise control switch is positioned on the dashboard. Just like the rear, front seats are comfy but with little extra lumbar support. The part-digital instrument cluster has a 7-inch screen. Rear AC vents aid cooling and seatbacks have unique phone storage space. Sunroof isn’t very large, can be opened and closed remotely. The fifth-gen Honda City for India gets country-specific styling tweaks inside out. The new City gets a new BS6 1.5-litre petrol engine, along with a diesel unit as well. The new City is 109mm longer, 53mm wider and has an identical wheelbase, but is 6mm shorter in height than its predecessor. Honda will announce fifth-generation City prices in July. Expect it to cost a premium over the current model. The new City for India gets beige interiors; the model sold overseas gets an all-black theme. The India-spec all-new 2020 Honda City will take on the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid.
