2021 Honda Gold Wing: engine and transmission
The Honda Gold Wing Tour has a 1,833cc, flat-six, liquid-cooled engine, it makes 126hp at 5,500rpm and 170Nm at 4,500rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a shaft-drive system. The company has also made minor tweaks to the fuel-injection system, to improve the Gold Wing’s low-speed manoeuvrability.
The six-speed manual gearbox has what Honda calls a ‘Cam damper’ that improves shift quality and also reduces the noise while changing gears. The slip and assist clutch reduces effort at the lever while preventing rear wheel hop during aggressive downshifts. An electric reverse feature is included as well.
Honda has also upgraded the Gold Wing’s dual-clutch automatic transmission hardware and software to improve low-speed rideability in the city. The DCT system is smoother and quieter in its operation compared to the previous model. It also gets a creep function which will make it easier to ride the bike in traffic or reverse out of a garage.
2021 Honda Gold Wing: electronics
In terms of electronics, the Gold Wing gets traction control, cruise control and Hill Start Assist. In addition, there are four ride modes – Tour, Sport, Econ and Rain. These can be accessed via the 7-inch TFT display that also features Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The BS6 model also gets an upgraded sound system, with 45-watt speakers. There are two Type-C USB ports as well to keep your electronic devices charged.
2021 Honda Gold Wing: chassis
The motorcycle employs a die-cast, aluminium frame, suspended by a unique double-wishbone front suspension and a preload-adjustable pro-link monoshock at the rear. The Gold Wing Tour variant has received a few tweaks to its suspension settings for better comfort, especially when riding two up. The suspension is electrically adjustable, with four preload settings- rider, rider with luggage, rider plus pillion and rider with pillion and full luggage.
Braking duties are taken care of by twin discs at the front and single disc at the rear, with D-CBS or Dual combined braking system.
2021 Honda Gold Wing: design, colours and availability
The Honda Gold Wing is quite striking to look at, considering its sheer length and the size of the fairing. It features all-LED lights and the Gold Wing Tour also gets LED fog lamps. Keeping the motorcycle’s touring focus in mind, Honda has also redesigned the pillion seat for enhanced comfort. The bike’s luggage carrying capacity has also gone up by means of a bigger top-box.
The 2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour will be available in two colours. The manual is available in Pearl Glare White while the DCT gets an attractive Gunmetal black and Matte Morion Black colour scheme.
The motorcycle can be booked online or at Honda’s premium BigWing showrooms. Deliveries will begin from July 2021 onwards.
