Diego Graffi CEO and MD, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd has revealed that both, the Aprilia RS 660 and Tuono 660 will be launched in India by mid-2021.

  • New 659cc, parallel twin makes 100hp and 67Nm

  • Gets a raft of electronic aids and adjustable suspension

  • Expected around June to July

While the RS 660 has gone on sale in international markets, it will make its Indian debut along with its sport-naked twin, the Tuono 660 around June to July 2021. Both motorcycles will be brought in as CBUs.

The sleek and sporty RS660 carves out an identity of its own, apparent in its sharp twin LED headlamps and the DRL with integrated turn indicators, that seamlessly merge with the creases on the front fairing. The side fairing looks equally arresting with its cuts and creases, while the exposed aluminium frame stands exposed in a typical Aprilia sort of way.

The Tuono 660, meanwhile, is essentially a naked RS and it takes a similar route as the larger Tuono takes with the RSV4. In typical fashion, the aggressive looking sport-naked puts a lot more of its mechanical bits on display, but it still sports a flowing design.

The new Aprilia RS 660's new Euro5 compliant, 659cc, parallel-twin engine is derived from the Aprilia RSV4's V4 engine. This twin-cylinder engine has a 270-degree firing order and produces 100hp at 10,500rpm and 67Nm at 8,500rpm.

Expect the upcoming Aprilia Tuono 660, which was displayed in concept form along with the production ready RS 600 at EICMA 2019, to feature the same engine. However, we could see a tad less power and also see a difference in the way this power is delivered, considering it isn’t as track-oriented as the RS 660.

As is the case with any modern-day performance Aprilia, the RS660 and Tuono 660 will also feature comprehensive electronic rider aids. Called the Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC), the six-axis IMU based system includes three level cornering ABS, adjustable wheelie control, traction control and engine brake control. It also gets an up/down quickshifter and cruise control. The motorcycle has five ride modes - Commute, Dynamic, Individual, Challenge and Time Attack. These modes can be accessed via the TFT dashboard.

The suspension components include a 41mm Kayaba USD fork, adjustable for spring preload and rebound damping. At the rear, there is a monoshock that is also adjustable for rebound and preload.

Braking duties are carried out by twin 320 discs at the front with four-piston Brembo radial calipers and a 220mm disc at the back with two pistons Brembo.
