BMW Motorrad has launched its K 1600 B, priced at Rs 29 lakh, and its R nineT Racer at Rs 17.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) at the 2017 India Bike Week. The motorcycles are variants of the K 1600 GTL and the R nineT that are already on sale in India. Brought in as completely built units (CBU), deliveries of the models are expected to begin later next month.

First revealed in October 2016, the K 1600 B gets a chopped windscreen and a swooping rear to provide it a sleeker version of the typical bagger silhouette. The German marque has reworked the fairings and updated wind deflectors to provide improved wind and weather protection, bettering that of the other K 1600 models. Like its K 1600 siblings, the Bagger is powered by a 1,649cc, inline-six, liquid-cooled engine producing 160hp at 7,750rpm and 175Nm of torque at 5,250rpm, and is mated to a six-speed gearbox.

Suspension duties are carried out by the Duolever system up front, which consists of a central spring strut, and the Paralever suspension at the rear with a monoshock. The K 1600 B also comes specced with a variety of electronic rider aids such as the electronic suspension with automatic damping adaptation. It also has Shift Assistant Pro for clutchless up and downshifts, three riding modes and BMW’s Dynamic Traction Control.

The R nineT Racer sports a classic half fairing, low-slung clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs. Some of the more expensive bits that come with the standard R nineT have been removed in favour of more conventional ones. The café racer uses a conventional 43mm telescopic fork instead of a 46mm upside down fork on the regular model and the brakes are traditionally mounted four-piston ones compared to the radial-mounted front brake calipers found on the standard R nineT. The R nineT Racer also features five-spoke 17-inch cast alloy wheels and a twin-pod instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer and tachometer.

The 1,170cc, air-cooled, boxer twin producing 110hp at 7,750rpm and 116Nm of torque at 6,000rpm is the same as the standard R nineT. Electronic aids include ABS as standard and automatic stability control as an optional extra.
