Hero MotoCorp, with five models, is currently the leader in the cut-throat 100cc bike segment. But now, we have gotten our hands on a document which confirms that the company is working on expanding its 125cc motorcycle line-up.

  1. Sporty 125cc bike likely to have angular styling
  2. Commuter-centric 125cc bike also under development

Most 125cc motorcycles sold in India are largely commuter bikes, with the TVS Raider – which recently crossed the 3 lakh unit sales mark – being the only sporty air-cooled product. Hero already has a range of 125cc commuters like the Glamour and the Super Splendor, but none of them have sporty intentions. Hero could well be targeting the TVS Raider, which has gone largely unopposed thus far, with its new bike. The design sketch shows something very muscular and sharp, which hints that this new 125cc bike will likely be very striking looking.

There is also the possibility of Hero developing a modern, liquid-cooled engine for this bike, which would make it a rival to the KTM 125 Duke. Interestingly, the Duke is currently the only bike in this displacement category to have that technology.

Along with this new sporty machine, Hero is also developing a new 125cc bike that will be geared towards commuting. It can be seen that this new bike is positioned in the same line as the Glamour, which indicates that it will probably be a more basic and simple machine. Since there is a Hero Connect logo, it is reasonable to expect that this bike will also have Hero’s proprietary XTEC Bluetooth technology.

Going by the fact that these plans have just surfaced, there is still quite some time before either of these two bikes make it into production. Watch this space as we bring you the latest on upcoming Hero products.
