Polaris-owned American bike maker, Indian Motorcycle, has inaugurated its first showroom in India at Gurgaon. The dealership, Techno Automobile, is located at Sector 34, Info City and has been designed in line with Indian outlets across the world. Spread over two floors, the sprawling showroom is a one-stop shop for all things Indian. In addition to the bikes, the showroom houses a display area for accessories to customise the bikes, and also an area for merchandise. Bikes will be serviced in the workshop located within the premises.
At present, Indian sells the Chief Classic, Chief Vintage and Chieftain with prices for the range starting at Rs 26.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bikes were launched internationally in 2012 and are built around Indian’s new Thunder Stroke 1811cc V-twin engine. Indian has so far sold two bikes in India following the brand’s introduction in January this year. Indian will expand its dealer footprint with a showroom each in Mumbai and Bangalore by early next year.
While Polaris officials stated that their focus is on establishing Indian here for the moment, there is a high chance these showrooms could also be used to sell Victory motorcycles in the future. Victory, also a Polaris brand, is known for its large cruisers and is a natural rival to the likes of Harley-Davidson and is on the cards for an India launch in the coming years.
Speaking to Autocar India at the showroom opening, Bennett J Morgan, COO of Polaris, also confirmed that work on the Eicher and Polaris-developed four-wheeler is on track.
