New Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 spied

Early images show upcoming new fuel-injected Yamaha FZ-S in near-ready state.

Yamaha plans to strengthen its position in the 150cc commuter segment, as was evident from a new FZ series bike seen at this year’s Auto Expo. Yamaha has been updating its FZ series with fresh new styling from time to time, but strong competition in the market makes it obvious that Yamaha need to revamp its bikes thoroughly to remain competitive in a growing market with several able rivals.

As seen in these spied images, the new FZ-S, the V2.0 looks very similar to the one displayed at the Expo, showing off a more aggressive look than the current day FZ-S, with a sharper looking FZ-1 inspired headlight. The bike otherwise continues to carry similar design cues, as its front fender and fuel-tank remain unchanged. However, Yamaha has provided some interesting and much needed tweaks including freshly designed air-intakes below its fuel-tank, apart from a new looking exhaust. The new FZ-S showcases an updated digital cluster. The more conventional single saddle on the current model is to be replaced by split seats and silver alloy grab bars, while the rear is designed to look a lot more cutting edge with sharper looking side panels, a new tail-lamp and a revised mudguard.

On the mechanical front, it is likely that the V2.0 will feature a 153cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder and air-cooled engine with fuel-injection tech now offered, for improved performance and fuel-efficiency.

The FZ-S V2.0 will come equipped with telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock, carried forward from the current FZ-S, running on a set of chunky tyres, with a front disc and rear drum brake. The updated FZ-S can be expected to go on sale any time now, priced at a small premium over the older model.
