Polaris, the ATV manufacturer, is celebrating 60 years of innovation by launching the Slingshot. The Polaris Slingshot is a three-wheeled vehicle which will reportedly go on sale internationally in September.
The Slingshot is powered by a 2.4-litre Ecotec engine that delivers 171bhp and 23kgm of torque. That's connected to a five-speed manual transmission, while the kerb weight of the Slingshot sits at 790kgs. The model sits on 18-inch wheels at the front, with larger 20-inch units at the rear. High strength steel spaceframe, lightweight aluminum swingarm, carbon-fibre reinforced drive belt and sport tuned suspension complete the Slingshot’s setup.
Inside, drivers get analogue instruments and a 4.3-inch central display screen, which incorporates a reversing camera, Bluetooth integration, USB audio input and six speakers. Storage units behind both seats are large enough to hold a race helmet, says Polaris, while there's also a locking glove box in the cockpit. It gets Electronic Stability Program (ESP), traction control and ABS.
As a Tricycle rather than a car, all Slingshot drivers must have a valid motorcycle license, and must wear helmets when driving the model, mentions Polaris. The company does have presence in India, though its portfolio has only ATVs.
