It’s been known for a while that Suzuki is working on a naked version of the Gixxer SF 250 for India and now, images of the upcoming bike have been leaked online. The bike, which will share its engine, chassis and other equipment with the recently launched SF 250, is expected to make its debut in the next few months, along with a similarly styled updated Gixxer 150.
The images reveal a few key details about the Gixxer 250. The fuel tank, fork, brake, a gold-coloured finish on the engine casing and the alloys with polished outer edges all seem to have been carried forward from the faired Gixxer SF 250. Although it’s not clear from these images, the bike is also expected to feature the same rear-end, the chrome-tipped double barrel exhaust and the fully digital instrument cluster from its faired sibling. However, the motorcycle does feature new panels near the tank, a belly pan and a new dual-tone colour scheme. The headlight is expected to be a LED unit and seems to look flat from the front.
The upcoming Gixxer will be powered by the SF’s 249cc, single-cylinder, SOHC oil-cooled engine that makes 26.5hp at 9,000rpm and 22.6Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. Despite using fuel injection instead of a carburettor, power figures could see a slight decrease due to the modifications made to meet BS6 regulations. The gearbox will be the same 6-speed unit from the SF 250. However, one aspect that will change is the kerb weight – the figure is expected to drop from the fully faired bike’s 161kg.
Suzuki is likely to price the upcoming naked Gixxer 250 somewhere around Rs 1.55-1.60 lakh – a lot lower than the SF. At this price point, it'll face competition from the Yamaha FZ25 (Rs 1.34 lakh), Bajaj Dominar 400 (Rs 1.74 lakh) and the Duke 200 (Rs 1.62 lakh).
