While rumours have long suggested that a Suzuki V-Strom 250 is in the works, there has been nothing official from the Japanese company to confirm this. Until now. Because Suzuki has finally teased the launch of an upcoming adventure tourer, and we expect this to be the V-Strom 250.

This motorcycle is likely to be derived from the quarter-litre Gixxer twins, and the teaser video shows engine covers that look pretty identical to the Gixxer's. That being said, Suzuki could implement some changes in state of tune and sprocketing/gearing to make the motor better suited to off-road use. That being said, it doesn't seem like the V-Strom 250 will be a hardcore off-roader, with the teaser video showing alloy wheels. So expect it to be a soft-roader, poised to take on the likes of the KTM 250 Adventure.

The front wheel could be a 19-inch unit, like on the KTM, and longer travel suspension could also be thrown in to help the Strom tackle some rough stuff. The teaser image also confirms a rear disc brake and dual-channel ABS, and Suzuki would do well to provide an option to disable the system at the rear wheel.

The upcoming bike's Austrian rival uses the same basic frame as its naked Duke counterpart, meaning it ends up with a rather tall 855mm seat height in order to achieve adequate levels of ground clearance and suspension travel. Suzuki would do well to give the V-Strom 250 a dedicated frame, which should afford the bike generous clearance and travel, while still keeping the seat height manageable.

For reference, the liquid-cooled 249cc engine in the Gixxer produces 26.5hp and 22.2Nm, while the KTM 250 Adventure manages 29.91hp and 24Nm. Expect the V-Strom to be a fairly well-equipped bike, with LED lighting, fully digital instrumentation and Bluetooth connectivity all likely to be featured. While Suzuki's video doesn't mention a launch date, it should take place in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more updates.
