Triumph Motorcycles will trim its work force as it grapples with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the BBC report, Triumph will let go of up to 400 employees, 240 in the UK alone.
Triumph’s global sales are understood to have fallen by up to 65 percent over the past three months. Triumph CEO Nick Bloor has stated that the crisis has caused significant damage to the global motorcycle market and that it was a challenging time for the company. "These are not easy decisions to make, especially when individuals' livelihoods are affected. However, regrettably the scale of impact of COVID-19 necessitates us to restructure now in order to protect the long term health and success of the Triumph brand and business."
Triumph currently has manufacturing bases in the UK, Thailand and Brazil, along with a relatively smaller CKD assembly operation in India. A Triumph India representative we spoke with said that there has been no communication regarding job cuts in India.
