TVS dealers have started accepting bookings for a new drum brake version of the Ntorq 125, which has been priced at Rs 58,252, making it Rs 1,648 cheaper than the front disc brake variant that costs Rs 59,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi). However, the price difference is a lot higher in other cities like Mumbai, where it tallies to Rs 3,700.
Like the disc brake version, the drum brake one will also come equipped with CBS. Interestingly, dealers are also suggesting that it is not only the front disc brake that is missing on this variant, it is also expected to miss out on the engine kill switch, underseat light and USB charger. However, other than these changes, the scooter is likely to remain identical to the more expensive disc brake variant. This means, it’ll be powered by the same 124.8cc, single-cylinder motor with a three-valve head, producing 9.5hp and 10.5Nm of torque.
The Ntorq 125 has proven to be quite a popular scooter for the company, with sales crossing the 1 lakh units mark in less than seven months after its launch. The TVS Ntorq 125 also managed to bag the Scooter of the Year title at the Autocar Awards 2019.
Its main rival, the Honda Grazia, is priced at Rs 60,723 (drum brake), Rs 62,653 (drum and alloy wheels), and Rs 65,095 (disc brake) (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). While the drum brake-equipped model is slightly more affordable and helps TVS increase the attainability of the scooter, we would still recommend the added safety offered by a front disc brake.
