TVS Motor Company has reported sales of 1,44,817 two-wheelers in June 2020, which is down 36 percent from the 2,26,279 units it sold in the same month, last year. Meanwhile, it exported 46,259 units in June 2020, taking total two-wheeler dispatches to 1,91,076 units. Exports, too, saw a 19.1 percent drop from the previous year.
TVS motorcycle sales hit 84,401 units (June 2019: 1,31,331), while scooters contributed 65,666 units (June 2019: 99,007).
Overall, in the first quarter of FY2021, total sales stood at 2,55,000, significantly lower on a year-on-year basis than the 8,84,000 units sold in the same period last fiscal year. However, a majority of this duration was during the lockdown period, where production and sales had come to a halt.
TVS resumed manufacturing operations in India across all its factories in Hosur, Mysuru, and Nalagarh back in early May. In an official statement, the company said, “The market is opening up gradually post the lockdown, and we are witnessing a positive uptake in both domestic retail as well as exports. The company faced supply chain constraints in June. However, the company has undertaken various countermeasures, some of which have started yielding results in June itself. The company is expecting to overcome these in the month of July.”
