USA based motorcycle brand UM Motorcycles has just partnered with Indian Lohia Auto in a 50-50 joint venture in India to market an entirely new range of motorcycles designed especially for the Indian market. The two companies will invest approximately Rs 120 crores into the project over a definite period.
The manufacturing unit will be located in Kashipur, Uttrakhand in Lohia Auto’s current facility, which is capable of producing 100,000 units per year. The company will initially offer cruiser motorcycles in the market at affordable prices, with production starting by the second quarter of 2015. This will be followed by the production of sports and touring motorcycles.
Company directors say their vision for India is a long term one, and they wish to provide our market with new, innovative and affordable products.
The company will also make India an important export hub for its global distribution network.
