Rynox Storm Evo 2 gloves review

In the past few years, the indian motorcycle gear scene has started to offer some genuinely good quality products at very reasonable prices. When it comes to gloves, i’m always looking for the best possible combination of a comfortable fit, a high level of protection and a reasonable price. Experience with premium international brands has shown that it’s easy to find any two of those characteristics, but all three together is far less common. After two month’s worth of regular use with the CE-certified Storm Evo 2 gloves from Indian brand Rynox, I think they do a pretty good job of hitting that sweet spot. 

Construction is primarily in goat leather and the fit is good, but the Rynox size chart suggested a size L, which ended up being one size too small for my hand – I wear an XL in most other brands as well. Ventilation is decent, thanks to leather perforations in the top of the fingers, along the thumb and on the top of the cuff. I’ve spent full days in these gloves and there hasn’t been a moment when I’ve been desperate to get them off. Speaking of which, you do so via a small Velcro clasp for the wrist and another larger one around the gauntlet.

The protection scheme includes a hard plastic protector on the knuckle and another hard piece of armour on the outer side of the gauntlet. What drove me towards these gloves was the Knox SPS scaphoid protector armour at the base of the palm. These small pieces of plastic armour stay out of the way on the bike, but help your hands slide without grabbing on the road surface in case of a crash. 

The Storm Evo 2 is available in two colour options and it has a nice low-profile look without appearing too racy. The index fingers are touchscreen friendly, but these gloves do miss out on some features like externally stitched seams, a visor wipe and armour on top of the fingers, all of which you will find on the Viaterra Grid that we recently reviewed. Then again, this glove is a little more comfortable right out of the box and requires pretty much no break-in. It’s a good all-rounder and one that’s easy to recommend based on my experience so far.
