The Regera has been officially unveiled at the on-going Geneva motor show. Powered by a quartet of a V8 engine and three electric motors, the car develops an astounding 1782bhp.

The Regera sports a softer front-end design than its sibling, the Agera. At the front, the car gets a more rounded profile with large air intakes, front diffuser, wrap-around windscreen and a prominent roof scoop. At the rear, the new model gets an Akrapovic-developed exhaust, which exits from a rear diffuser above which is placed the Regera’s charging port. The large rear wing of the car is claimed to generate over 450kg of downforce at speeds in excess of 200kph.

The Regera sits on 19-inch carbonfibre wheels at the front and 20-inch wheels at the back, and features vented ceramic brake discs at all four corners.

The Regera is powered by a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, along with three electric motors – one for each rear wheel, while the third is on the crankshaft. The V8 is stated to produce 1085bhp while the trio of electric motors are stated to produce 697bhp, giving the Regera 1782bhp, which makes it the most powerful production car in the world. But the company has confirmed that the Regera puts a maximum of 1500bhp on the tarmac.

The key to the Regera’s performance is its relatively lightweight hybrid set-up. Although the Regera is not referred to as a traditional hybrid, the model does feature a new Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) transmission that, the company says, can reduce energy losses by up to 50% compared with traditional transmissions and CVTs.

Just 80 examples of the Regera will be made. The car is on display at the ongoing Geneva motor show alongside the new track-focused Agera RS.
