The much awaited Mahindra Marazzo MPV has launched with introductory prices starting at Rs 9.99 lakh going up to Rs 13.90 lakh for the top-spec M8 trim. The MPV is available in seven- and eight seat configurations, four trims (M2 to M8) and a single diesel-manual combination. (All prices, ex-showroom, pan-India)

As seen from the spy shots and leaked brochures, the Marazzo gets a ‘shark-inspired’ grille, while LED DRLs and 17-inch black-finished alloy wheels feature on the top-spec trims.

Mahindra has equipped all variants of the Marazzo with ABS with EBD and brake assist, two airbags and Isofix child seat mounts. The top-spec M8 also gets a rear parking camera and parking sensors, while the M6 misses out on the camera.

In terms of features, the base M2 (Rs 9.99 lakh) is available with AC vents for all three row, power windows and central locking, though one would have to upgrade to the M4 variant (Rs 10.95 lakh) to get kit such as a roof-mounted antenna, wheel covers for the 16-inch steel wheels, an audio system with USB and Aux compatibility, power adjustable wing mirrors, driver’s seat height adjust and a rear wiper.

The mid-spec M6 (Rs 12.40 lakh) is quite well-specced, with features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps with a follow-me-home function, front and rear fog lamps, keyless entry, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and steering mounted audio controls. The top-spec M8 (Rs 13.90 lakh) adds LED DRLs and 17-inch alloy wheels on the outside, Android Auto compatibility for the infotainment system with voice recognition, automatic climate control, cruise control and power folding wing mirrors.

Under the bonnet of the Marazzo is Mahindra’s new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that makes 123hp and 300Nm of peak torque. Output is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.

At this price point, the Marazzo is more expensive than its main rival, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (Rs 6.34-10.69 lakh). The Maruti has the advantage of a petrol engine option (with manual and automatic transmissions) as well (Rs 6.34-8.85 lakh), though diesel model prices (Rs 8.79-10.69 lakh) as still quite competitive.

The Renault Lodgy compares on price as well, costing Rs 8.33-11.00 lakh for the 85hp version and Rs 11.82 lakh for the top-spec 110hp Stepway trim.

*Prices for Ertiga and Lodgy are ex-showroom, Delhi
