The 2020 Audi Q2 facelift has been revealed. Audi’s smallest SUV, which is scheduled to launch in India next month, gets cosmetic changes outside and inside, and more standard equipment.

  • Updated Audi Q2 gets design tweaks outside and inside
  • More equipment on offer
  • No mechanical changes

What’s new on the outside of the 2020 Audi Q2?

The design changes are rather subtle. In the front, the single-frame grille is now set lower to give the impression that the car is wider. The grille features a new polygon motif that’s echoed in the shape of the new rear diffuser insert. The front air intakes have also been reshaped, while higher-spec models gain three narrow slits between the bonnet and the grille, which Audi says is inspired by its legendary Quattro rally car.

As with the refreshed Audi Q5, the Q2’s facelift brings new LED headlights as standard. Top-spec models now come with Matrix LED technology, which is said to produce “an intelligently controlled high beam light without dazzling other road users”, and dynamic rear indicators.

The Q2 facelift has also grown in length by a small amount –up from 4.19m to 4.21m – due to the new bumpers, though the wheelbase, width and height are unchanged.

What’s new on the inside of the 2020 Audi Q2?

Inside, the Q2 gains a new gearlever as well as redesigned air vents and new material options. It's also now equipped with four-way adjustable front seats, an electronic tailgate, smartphone compatibility, rear parking sensors and cruise control as standard. Higher-spec versions also get a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, 8.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, sports seats at the front and a driving mode selector. Audi’s latest-generation MMI Navigation Plus software, which offers live traffic, weather and fuel pricing information, as well as emergency call and remote locking functions, is also on offer.

Boot space is unchanged from the previous model’s 405 litres. With the rear seats folded, luggage carrying capacity can increase to 1,050 litres.

What’s powering the 2020 Audi Q2?

For now, international markets just get a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine from VW Group’s  TSI family. In the Q2, it makes 150hp and 250Nm of torque. The same markets also get 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox options, with front-wheel drive as standard on both. More petrol and diesel engine options will be added to the line-up in the coming months.

This unit comes with cylinder deactivation tech that aids fuel economy. It’s also seen in a number of VW Group cars such as the Volkswagen T-Roc and Skoda Karoq, which are on sale in India at Rs 19.99 lakh and Rs 24.99 lakh, respectively (ex-showroom, India).

What about the 2020 Audi Q2 India launch?

Expected to arrive in Audi India showrooms in the month of September, the Q2 is expected to be offered in a single, higher-spec variant (with all the bells and whistles) and in 40TFSI form; we are also liekly to get the pre-facelift version here. A 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which makes 190hp and 320Nm of peak torque (shared with the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace) will send power to all-four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.

Bookings for the Audi Q2 will begin shortly. Audi’s smallest SUV won’t have a direct rival in India, though entry-level SUVs such as the BMW X1, Volvo XC40 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA, could be considered as alternatives. Expect Audi Q2 prices to range between Rs 35-48 lakh (ex-showroom).
