Has the price increased?

At this price point, the starting price of the BS6 Redigo 0.8 is just Rs 3,000 higher than its outgoing counterpart. The Redigo 0.8 T(O) and Redigo 1.0 T(O) (manual) variants are priced Rs 54,000 higher than their respective pre-facelift versions. Meanwhile, the price of the top-spec Redigo 1.0 T(O) with the AMT gearbox is Rs 40,000 higher than the pre-facelift Redigo’s.

Whats’s new on the Redigo facelift?

The most obvious difference is the design – there are comprehensive changes both outside and in. The entire front-end has been revised with slimmer headlights, longer L-shaped DRLs, a tweaked front bumper, chrome surround on the grille and segment-first LED fog lamps. The top-spec variant gets new two-tone wheel covers (that resemble alloy wheels), though the larger wing mirrors that can be adjusted from inside the cabin are standard across the range. These external updates have done much for the Redigo’s looks but are also functional – the budget hatchback now meets crash test and pedestrian safety norms. There are two new colour options on offer too – brown and blue – providing buyers with a total of six options. Do note that metallic colours add Rs 3,000 to the price tag.

On the inside, the biggest addition is the new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. This unit also doubles as the display for the rear parking camera. New grey and silver inserts, two-tone fabric seat covers and new door trim make the cabin appear a lot more upmarket.

What engines does the Redigo facelift get?

The Redigo facelift gets mechanical changes too. Both petrol engines – the 54hp/72Nm, 0.8-litre and the 68hp/91Nm, 1.0-litre – have been upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms. As before, both get a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.0-litre engine gets a 5-speed AMT option as well. As expected, ARAI mileage figures have dropped compared to the BS4 engines. The Redigo 0.8 is now rated at 20.71kpl (down 1.99kpl), the Redigo 1.0 manual at 21.7kpl (down 0.8kpl) and the Redigo 1.0-AMT at 22kpl (a decrease of 1kpl).

How does the Redigo facelift compare with rivals on price?

2020 Redigo 0.8 vs rivals: Price
Redigo 0.8Alto*Kwid 0.8*
MTRs 2.83-4.16 lakhRs 2.95-3.90 lakhRs 2.92-4.22 lakh

Starting prices for the Redigo facelift with the 0.8-litre engine undercut both its rivals – the Renault Kwid 0.8 and the Maruti Alto. The Alto’s top-spec variant is more affordable, it does miss out on features like a touchscreen infotainment system. The Redigo facelift, in top-spec 0.8-litre form, costs just Rs 8,000 less than the Kwid 0.8. This bodes well for buyers on a tight budget who don’t want to skimp on features.

2020 Redigo 0.8 vs rivals: Price
Redigo 1.0S-Presso*Kwid 1.0 *
MTRs 4.44 lakhRs 3.71-4.56 lakhRs 4.42-4.50 lakh
AMTRs 4.77 lakhRs 4.76-4.99 lakhRs 4.72-4.80 lakh

In terms of price, it’s a closer match for the Redigo facelift with the 1.0-litre engine. The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is priced well below both, though the top-spec variant is on the pricey side for this segment. The Redigo AMT is well-priced in comparison, while the Renault Kwid 1.0 comes across as the most expensive budget hatchback.
