Honda recently introduced a mild update for its popular S660 open-top two-seater at the 38th Tokyo Auto Salon. The company took the wraps off the refreshed roadster with minor design tweaks at the motor show which has, for long, been used as a platform for showcasing highly tuned and kitted-out vehicles.
The 2020 model year Honda S660 sports new design flourishes to build on the striking form of its predecessor. It gets a redesigned front grille, smoked-out headlights and tail-lights, new aluminium alloy wheels and additional green and silver paint shades. Moreover, the A-pillars are body coloured this time around, instead of being blacked-out as before. On the inside, the heated seats, and the Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and gear-shift knob are new to the package.
The kitted-out S660 Modulo X received some attention as well, in the form of new alloy wheels, blacked-out wing mirrors and an additional yellow shade of body paint. The Modulo X’s cabin is further marked by leather sports seats, Alcantara and leather accents, and a red-black, dual-tone upholstery.
For those who might not be in the thick of things, the S660 is a compact roadster that debuted in 2015. Featuring a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout, it gets a 64hp/104Nm, 660cc, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that continues unchanged from the previous model. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 7-step CVT-automatic gearbox. Dimensionally, it stretches the tape at just 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width and 1,180mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,285mm. Owing to its compact footprint and small-capacity engine, the two-seater qualifies as a ‘kei’ car in its home market.
Honda has made no official announcement about the global launch of the S660 roadster, which is exclusively sold in Japan. The company is, however, working towards making its complete India line-up BS6 compliant and is also gearing up for the launch of the fifth-gen Honda City in our market in the second half of 2020.
