In the run up to the new Creta’s launch on March 17, Hyundai took the wraps off the second-gen model at the 2020 Auto Expo and revealed the interior design details soon after. And now, details have surfaced online that reveal the complete variant list of the upcoming SUV.

The 2020 Hyundai Creta will be available in five trim levels – E, EX, S, SX and SX(O) – and five powertrain options, adding up to 14 variants in total. As we have previously reported, the engine-gearbox combinations will be shared with the Kia Seltos, since Hyundai and Kia fall under the umbrella of the Hyundai Motor Group.

The 115hp, 1.5-litre petrol engine will come with a 6-speed manual gearbox in the EX, S, and SX trims and a CVT (or an IVT, as Hyundai calls it) automatic transmission in the top-spec SX and SX(O) variants. This means that prospective customers seeking all the bells and whistles will have to stretch their budget for the automatic option on the naturally aspirated petrol mill.

The 115hp, 1.5-litre diesel unit with the 6-speed manual transmission will be available across all five trim levels, but the choice of an automatic gearbox – a 6-speed torque converter unit in this case – will again be reserved for the top two trims.

As expected, the 140hp, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine will also be part of the line-up. However, unlike the Seltos, it will miss out on a manual offering altogether and come equipped with a sole 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox in the higher SX and SX(O) variants.

With the midsized SUV market crowding up fast, the upcoming Creta will stand out with a radical design language. Key highlights of the exterior styling include a large cascading grille up front, split headlamps and tail-lamps, and a more rounded look compared to the previous-gen SUV. The colour palette will consist of paint shades like Mulberry Red, Galaxy Blue, Typhoon Silver, Titan Grey, Phantom Black, Polar White and Lava Orange, with the last two also getting the option of a contrast black roof.

On the inside, the cabin has been completely redesigned, with an upmarket styling and plusher materials. In terms of features, the range-topping Creta holds the promise of a digital instrument cluster, a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, electronic parking brake, cooled seats, wireless smartphone charger and a panoramic sunroof.

Expect the new Creta to be priced at Rs 10-16 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom) and continue to battle it out with the Kia Seltos, MG Hector and Tata Harrier in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment.
