The 2020 Hyundai i20’s interior has been revealed in new spy shots, which give us a clear look at some of the features the India-spec new-gen hatchback will come with.
The Hyundai i20 has always been one of the most feature-rich premium hatchbacks on sale in India. However, the current-gen model has been on sale since 2014 and is due to be replaced by the new-gen i20, which looks set to up the ante in the features department.

2020 Hyundai i20 interior: India-spec model spied
A glance through the spy images confirms that the India-spec 2020 Hyundai i20 retains the same interior design as the international-spec model revealed earlier this year. On the inside, the new i20 appears to sport a dual-tone theme, combining black with coffee brown accents for certain trim elements, the leatherette upholstery and contrast stitching.
Taking centre stage on the dashboard is a large, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There’s also a digital instrument display (the same unit as seen in the Verna facelift), and the touchscreen sits above the central AC vents, which are incorporated into the horizontal blades that stretch all the way to the other end of the dashboard.
There are some physical switches and buttons for essential functions mounted lower on the centre console, and also visible is a provision for wireless smartphone charging.
The new Hyundai i20 for India has the same four-spoke steering wheel as seen inside the second-gen Hyundai Creta. Among other features of the new i20 visible in the spy pictures are cruise control, a front centre armrest, a Bose sound system, a centre armrest for the rear seat passengers and an air purifier placed between the front seats.
What most will also be thrilled to know is that the range-topping 2020 Hyundai i20 Asta will also have a sunroof. Expect to see Hyundai’s BlueLink connected-car technology to feature as well.
Interestingly, while the fully-loaded version of the new Hyundai i20 spied is the Asta automatic, the spy shots also reveal a manual Asta variant, which retains the Bose audio system and 10.25-inch touchscreen, but misses out on cruise control, the sunroof and also has fixed headrests for the rear-seat passengers. Both versions, however, sport contrast-coloured side skirts and machine-cut alloy wheels.
New Hyundai i20 engine and gearbox options
The 2020 Hyundai i20 Asta automatic spied also wears the DCT badge, which confirms the new-gen hatchback will come with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that does duty in a number of other Hyundai India models.
This gearbox will be paired with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, expected to put out close to 120hp;the 1.0 turbo could also be offered with a six-speed manual. Entry-level i20 models are likely to come with a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual, and there will also be a 1.5-litre diesel engine option that’sexpected to be offered in its 100hp state of tune.
At this point, it remains to be seen if Hyundai will also offer its intelligent manual transmission (iMT) option on the new i20, but if it does, it’ll most likely be the third gearbox option for the 1.0 turbo-petrol.
2020 Hyundai i20 India launch in the coming weeks
With the festive season almost upon us, the new Hyundai i20’s India launch is also around the corner and is expected to take place in the coming weeks. The current-gen i20 has lost considerable ground to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno on the sales charts, and the new-gen i20 will be looking to make amends as it goes head-on with the Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Honda Jazz and the Tata Altroz. Expect the 2020 Hyundai i20’s price to range from Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
