Details on 2020 Hyundai i20 variants
Buyers will certainly be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a variant of the new i20. There are three engine options on the table – a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel.
While a manual gearbox will be available with both the 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel, the 1.0 turbo will only get an intelligent manual transmission (iMT) option. Both petrol engines will be available with an automatic gearbox as well, the 1.2 petrol will have a CVT (IVT in Hyundai-speak), while the 1.0 turbo will have a 7-speed DCT. For those keen to know, the 2020 Hyundai i20 diesel will not get an automatic gearbox option at launch.
The new Hyundai i20 variant line-up starts with the base Magna trim, which will only be offered with the 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel engines, and with a manual gearbox only. Choices expand with the next step in the range, which is the Hyundai i20 Sportz. The Sportz will be available with all three engine options, as well as a choice of manual, CVT and iMT options.

The version with the widest variety of choices is the higher-spec Hyundai i20 Asta. Offered in combination with the 1.2 and 1.0 petrol engines, the Asta can be had with a manual gearbox, a CVT, an iMT or even a DCT. The 2020 Hyundai i20 diesel, meanwhile, won’t be offered in Asta guise.
Finally, there’s the range-topping Hyundai i20 Asta (O). Set to be loaded to the gills (with features including a 10.25-inch touchscreen, digital instrument readout, a Bose sound system, sunroof and more), the Asta (O) will be offered with all three engine options. In addition to a manual gearbox option, what will come as welcome news to many is that the 1.0 turbo-DCT combination will also be available in the fully-loaded Asta (O) variant.
There is a total of eight paint options for the new Hyundai i20, including dual-tone schemes. The two dual-tone paintjobs – red and black; white and black, will be available on every variant except for the base Magna.
The India-spec 2020 Hyundai i20, remains largely identical to the international-spec model revealed earlier this year, both inside and out, but ditches the all-LED headlights of the international-spec i20 for projector headlights with LED DRLs.
