Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker has just launched the S-CNG variant of the BS6 Wagon R, with prices starting at Rs 5.25 lakh for the LXi variant and going up to Rs 5.32 for the LXi(O) variant (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes the Wagon R, the third CNG-powered model in Maruti Suzuki’s line-up to become BS6-compliant, after the BS6 Alto CNG and the BS6 Ertiga CNG.

In terms of engines, the WagonR CNG continues to use the 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 59hp and 78Nm of torque when run on CNG (the same as it did in BS4 guise). The engine is offered with a sole 5-speed manual gearbox option. The WagonR CNG also has a tank capacity of 60 litres (water equivalent), and offers a mileage of 32.52 km/kg.

According to the company, the launch of the BS6-compliant CNG WagonR is aligned with its Mission Green Million, announced at the Auto Expo-2020. The company started its CNG journey over a decade ago, and has already sold over million green vehicles – CNG and hybrid. Maruti Suzuki India says it now aims to sell the next million green vehicles in the next few years.

Shashank Srivastava, executive director – Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India said, “Maruti Suzuki has consistently endeavoured to offer sustainable mobility options to customers. With the announcement of Mission Green Million, we have strengthened our commitment towards boosting green mobility in the country. The third-generation WagonR is hugely successful and continues the iconic journey of brand WagonR with more than 24 lakh customers. Strong on looks and performance, the new factory fitted S-CNG variant offers a perfect balance of drivability, high fuel efficiency, enhanced safety and unmatched convenience.”

The OEM says its S-CNG vehicle portfolio comes equipped with dual interdependent ECUs (Electronic Control Units) and intelligent injection system. The vehicles are factory fitted, and specially tuned and calibrated to deliver optimum performance and enhanced drivability across all kinds of terrains.
