The Mercedes-Benz G-class has been updated for the 2020 model year in Europe with more standard equipment, added customisation and even some new colour options.
What is new on the MY 2020 Mercedes-Benz G-class?
Most notably, Mercedes has increased the standard equipment list on the G-class to now include things like the digital instrument cluster and the frameless inside rear-view mirror, which were earlier optional extras. The luxury off-roader also gets a new Desert drive mode, which can be accessed by the Dynamic Select switch.
The customisation options for the G-class have also been improved, as the Night Package (blacks out various exterior trim elements) can be selected without opting for the AMG Line and Stainless Steel Package. Mercedes is even offering the three new colour options – Classic Grey, Deep green, and China Blue – which are inspired by older G-class models. Over and above all this, there’s a new set of 20-inch twin-five-spoke alloy wheels, which can be had either in high-gloss black finish or Himalaya Grey.
Are there any mechanical changes on the 2020 Mercedes-Benz G-class?
Mercedes-Benz has not made any changes to the mechanicals of the G-class, and so the SUVs engine and gearbox combinations, outputs and performance have remained intact.
Can you get these updates on the Mercedes-Benz G-class in India?
The current-gen G-class is available in our market in two versions. The first is the G 350d which was launched late last year at a price of Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom). It comes with a 3.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder diesel engine that puts out a strong 286hp and 600Nm of torque. The other version is the performance-oriented AMG G63 which uses a 585hp, 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 petrol engine. Mercedes-Benz has not announced when these updates will be available to Indian customers, but since the G-class is a full import, expect them to be added to the catalogue soon enough.
