The current generation SsangYong Rexton – the G4 – has been on sale in international markets since 2017, and to keep it relevant, the Korean carmaker had begun working on a mid-cycle facelift for the SUV. SsangYong has now officially revealed the facelifted Rexton G4 SUV and it features only cosmetic updates, with no changes being made to the mechanicals.
In terms of styling, the Rexton G4 facelift gets a redesigned front end, with a new bumper and a much larger grille that sits slightly below the headlights. On the side, the only change comes in the form of new-design optional alloy wheels. At the rear, the only change is the Rexton lettering that has moved down on the tailgate, making way for the carmaker’s badge.
Coming to the inside, the interior layout remains untouched as the SUV features the same instrument cluster, infotainment screen and central console layout. SsangYong has, however, added a new grey-white dual-tone interior finish to the new Rexton G4’s cabin, in addition to the already available all-grey and tan-grey interior finishes. The SUV also comes with some additional safety features, such as a blind spot monitoring system and automatic emergency braking system.
For the Indian market, Mahindra sells a tweaked version of the SsangYong G4, called the Alturas G4. It comes fitted with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 181hp and 420Nm of torque, which is paired to a Mercedes-sourced 7-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Mahindra will update this 2.2-litre diesel engine to comply with the new BS6 emission norms before the April 1, 2020, deadline.
