Tata Motors has launched the BS6 automatic range of the Harrier at the ongoing Auto Expo, and has also announced pricing for its updated 2020 Harrier line-up.

The 2020 BS6 Harrier sees the power output of its 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine bumped up from 140hp in BS4 spec to a healthy 170hp. The 6-speed manual gearbox will continue as standard, and the void of an automatic option in the Harrier range has been filled by a Hyundai-sourced, 6-speed torque converter unit in the mid-spec XMA, high-spec XZA, and a new range-topping XZA+ variant.

Prices for the BS6 manual have gone up by Rs 25,000-30,000, with the entry-level Harrier XE now costing Rs 13.69 lakh.

The BS6 Harrier automatic line-up starts at Rs 16.25 lakh for the XMA variant, with the XZA costing Rs 18.80 lakh, and the top-spec XZA+ is priced at Rs 19.99 lakh.

The Harrier dual-tone BS6 manual starts at Rs 17.60 lakh while the top-end XZA+ dual-tone costs Rs 20.15 lakh. Prices for the Harrier BS6 Dark Edition now start at Rs 17.70 lakh, going up to Rs 20.25 lakh for the top-of-the-line Harrier XZA+ BS6 Dark Edition automatic.

In terms of features, the new, top-of-the-line XZ+/XZA+ trims gain some highly awaited features, including a panoramic sunroof, 6-way adjustable powered driver’s seat, auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror, and two-tone, diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels.

In addition to the power upgrade and automatic gearbox, Tata has added a new ‘Calypso Red’ paint shade to the range, and has redesigned the wing mirrors for better visibility. On the safety front, ESP – which was only available on the top-spec XZ – is now standard across the range. Other standard features are the same – dual airbags, ABS and EBD, with the more expensive trims also getting four more airbags, traction control, hill start and descent control.

The Tata Harrier BS6 rivals the likes of the MG Hector, the upcoming second-gen Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Captur and the Nissan Kicks. The Harrier will soon be joined by a slightly larger, 7-seat iteration called the Tata Gravitas that made its debut at the Auto Expo 2020.

Interested buyers can book the 2020 Harrier BS6 automatic for an amount of Rs 30,000.
