2021 Skoda Octavia: design
The fourth-gen Skoda Octavia was unveiled globally at the end 2019, and the carmaker has not changed much for the India-spec model. The new Octavia’s styling has been brought in line with the Czech carmakers current design language. This means, gone are the previous model’s quad-headlight headlight layout and in its place is a more conventional arrangement. The changes don’t stop there as the new Octavia’s design on the whole, is much sleeker and more modern in appearance than the model it replaces.
Skoda offers three standard colour options with the new Octavia – Lava Blue, Magic Black and Candy White, with two additional colour options – Brilliant Silver and Maple Brown – reserved for the Laurin and Klement (L&K) trim.
2021 Skoda Octavia: interiors and features
On the inside, there is an all-new layout in the cabin, with the dashboard featuring a layered design with the free-standing 10-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster (Virtual cockpit) taking centre stage. Another noteworthy design change is the move to Skoda’s new two-spoke steering wheel, with knurled scroll wheels. To increase appeal to Indian buyer’s, the India-spec Octavia features a beige-on-black colour scheme instead of an all-black scheme, to help with the sense of space inside the cabin. The seats are also finished in a suede and leather upholstery to add to the cabin’s premium appeal.
Skoda has also equipped the top-spec Octavia L&K trim with features like two-zone climate control, connected car tech, a digital assistant (named ‘Laura’), wireless smartphone charging, a 12-speaker Canton sound system, and ambient lighting system, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats with memory settings, keyless entry on all doors and front and rear parking sensors to name a few. Safety features include 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, adaptive headlights and a driver fatigue alert system to name a few.
2021 Skoda Octavia: powertrain
Powering the all-new Octavia is a sole 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 190hp and 320Nm. The engine comes paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with a shift-by-wire selector. Unlike its predecessor, which was also offered with a 143hp, 2.0-litre TDI motor, Skoda will not be offering the new Octavia with a diesel engine, in line with its decision to focus on the petrol segment.
2021 Skoda Octavia: rivals
Coming to its competition, the new Skoda Octavia is positioned in the executive sedan segment where it currently rivals only the Hyundai Elantra. This is because both the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla have been discontinued in the Indian market.
