Almost two years after it was discontinued, Skoda is set to relaunch the Kodiaq in India on January 10. Skoda’s three-row SUV is set to return with the facelifted model and in a petrol-only guise, with new details revealing that it will go on sale in three variants.

  • Kodiaq to be powered by 190hp, 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine
  • Gets all-wheel drive as standard

Skoda Kodiaq facelift: to go on sale in three variants

As per filings with the Delhi Transport department, the updated Kodiaq will be available in Style, Sportline and Laurin & Klement (L&K) trim levels. Indians are no strangers to the Kodiaq’s Style and L&K trims, as they were offered on the pre-facelift model as well.

The Sportline is the variant to talk of as it’s the first time the Kodiaq gets it in the Indian market. As seen in the Superb, the Sportline trim gives the vehicle a sportier look with darkened trim elements on the exterior and darker upholstery finish on the inside as well – in comparison to the other two variants.

In terms of equipment, the updated model could carry forward kit from the older SUV. Depending on the trim level, expect it to be get features such as Matrix LED headlamps, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, virtual cockpit digital instrument screen, ambient lighting, three-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, hands-free parking, front and rear parking sensors, nine airbags and more. Globally, the Kodiaq facelift also gets a larger 9.2-inch infotainment screen as an optional extra, which could be offered here too.

Skoda Kodiaq facelift engine details

The filing also confirms what we have already said about engine details. Unlike the discontinued model, which was diesel only, the Kodiaq facelift will be a petrol-only model. It comes powered by a 190hp, 2.0-litre petrol engine, that’s shared with the Octavia and the Superb, and is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Unlike the sedans, which are two-wheel drive, the Kodiaq will get all-wheel drive as standard.

Skoda Kodiaq facelift rivals

The Kodiaq will have no direct rivals in the Indian market with VW having pulled the plug on the Tiguan Allspace. The three-row SUV though, is likely to see some competition from the recently launched five-seater Tiguan facelift, with a more direct rival in the form of the Compass-based Jeep Meridian, which is expected to arrive later this year.
