Toyota has launched the Camry Hybrid facelift in India at Rs 41.70 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The current eight-generation Camry was launched in India in 2019, and now Toyota has now brought a mid-life update for the sedan, although a very subtle one. Updates on the Toyota Camry facelift include mild exterior cosmetic changes and an improved infotainment system, although there are no changes under the skin.

  • Cosmetic updates on Camry facelift include revised front fascia and tail-lights
  • Interior upgraded with larger 9.0-inch touchscreen and new software
  • Camry facelift gets no mechanical changes under its hood

Toyota Camry facelift: what’s new on the outside?

This mid-life update on the Camry was globally unveiled in late 2020. Cosmetic changes on the facelifted Camry are very subtle, as it might take more than a passing glance to tell the new one from the old. Up front, the Camry gets a sleeker grille that gets less chrome than its predecessor. The front bumper now features a larger, wider central air intake and also gets new chrome accents on the sides.

There aren’t any significant changes in profile, with the most notable difference being the new dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the Camry gets new darkened inserts for the tail-lamps, to round out all the exterior updates.

Toyota Camry facelift: interior and features

The biggest highlight on the interior of the new Camry is a new floating 9.0-inch infotainment screen that replaces the integrated 8.0-inch screen of the outgoing model. The AC vents have also been repositioned below the infotainment screen and it also gets a new trim finish for the dashboard, centre console and arm rests. The infotainment system now comes with improved software, and notably, finally gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Camry is available in a single fully-loaded trim. As such, it comes equipped with features such as three-zone climate control, a sunroof, nine-speaker JBL audio system, power-reclining rear seats, powered sunshades for the rear passengers, powered and ventilated front seats with a memory function for the driver’s seat, wireless charging pad, reverse camera, head-up display, nine airbags and a host of other safety systems that can be expected from a car in this class.

Toyota Camry facelift: engine details

The Camry is underpinned by Toyota’s TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, and the facelifted model remains mechanically unchanged to its predecessor.

Under the hood, the Camry features a 178hp, 2.5-litre petrol engine that’s paired to a 120hp permanent magnet synchronous motor, with a combined system output of 218hp. The powertrain comes mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. Thanks to the very efficient hybrid system, the Camry has a claimed fuel economy of 23.27kpl.

Toyota Camry facelift: rivals

Compared to the pre-facelift model that was on sale for Rs 41.20 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), prices for the new Camry have gone up by Rs 50,000. As the Honda Accord Hybrid is no longer on sale in India, the Camry’s only rival in our market would be the Skoda Superb that’s priced between Rs 32.85 lakh-35.85 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
