Jeep has released the updated, post-GST price list of its India range. The Grand Cherokee diesel line-up sees the highest price-cuts followed by the high-performance SRT and Wrangler.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel in Limited trim is now priced at Rs 75.15 lakh as opposed to Rs 93.64 lakh earlier, which means it gets a reduction of a whopping Rs 18.49 lakh. The Grand Cherokee Summit diesel now costs Rs 85.15 lakh as opposed to Rs 1.03 crore, seeing a cut of Rs 17.95 lakh. The Grand Cherokee SRT sees a drop of Rs 5 lakh and the Wrangler Unlimited diesel is now cheaper by Rs 6.14 lakh. The Wrangler Unlimited petrol sees no change in pricing.
Along with the price announcement, Jeep has launched a petrol-powered version of the Grand Cherokee SUV in India. The Grand Cherokee petrol, not to be confused with the high-performance SRT version, comes with a 3.6-litre, V6 engine good for 290hp and 347Nm torque. This engine is mated to an 8-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 petrol is available only on the Summit trim and is priced at Rs 75.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

At Rs 75.15 lakh, the five-seater Grand Cherokee diesel is now comparable on price with other five seat luxury SUVs like the Mercedes GLE 350d and the BMW X5 and the slightly larger seven-seat variants like the Volvo XC90, the Mercedes GLS and the Audi Q7.
Additionally, all Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit variants (petrol and diesel) now come with standard air suspension. Jeep has also replaced the electro-hydraulic power steering setup with a full electric one. Also, LED fog lamps are now standard equipment across the Grand Cherokee range. Jeep’s Parksense system now gets automatic braking feature. Six paint shades are now on offer as opposed to four earlier.
Also, as far as styling goes, Jeep has updated the entire Grand Cherokee line-up for India. All models now get mildly updated front styling with a slightly smaller grille and restyled bumper. Jeep calls this update “75th anniversary fascia” which was actually introduced internationally a few months ago. The Grand Cherokee SRT gets slightly unique nose with additional air intakes just below the grille. Additionally, the Grand Cherokee Limited now comes with 18-inch alloy wheels while the Grand Cherokee Summit line-up gets dual-tone 20-inch alloys. The high-performance Grand Cherokee SRT now comes with new-look, matte-black 20-inch alloys.
At launch, Jeep received a lot of flak for pricing its models way out of competition. With the massive reduction in pricing, thanks to GST, the fully-imported Jeep range is now more competitive in our market. The brand is also readying the launch of its first made-in-India model, the Jeep Compass SUV, which is slated to launch on July 31, 2017.
