A few weeks ago we had reported that Maruti Suzuki had given the Eeco a major safety upgrade, and now, the automaker has listed the updated model on its website, with prices starting at Rs 3.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The safety update means the Maruti Suzuki Eeco now gets ABS with EBD, a driver airbag, reverse parking sensors, driver and co-driver seatbelt reminders and a speed alert system. The safety systems are available as standard across the range with the Tour V models – aimed at taxi and fleet operators – continuing to come with a speed limiter in place of the speed alert system.

Interestingly, with the update, the Eeco gets a new steering, which is identical to the one in the Alto siblings. This update is likely functional in nature, as this steering wheel can house a driver airbag.

The updated people mover continues to be offered with a variety of seating layouts ranging from a five- and seven-seat configuration to a cargo van with the rear benches removed for more space. Mechanically, the Eeco continues to use the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder motor running on either petrol or CNG. The unit makes 73hp and 101Nm of torque on petrol, and 63hp and 85Nm of torque on CNG.

The revisions mean that the current generation of the Eeco will continue to be on sale until the arrival of the new stringent crash test norms that'll come in to effect in October 2019.
