Morgan has revealed its first-ever all-electric series production car – the EV3 – at the Geneva Motor Show.

A pre-production version of the EV3 was revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year, but Morgan says it is now ready to start the last stages of testing for the new car ahead of production beginning in the final quarter of this year.

The EV3 is based on Morgan’s successful 3 Wheeler sportscar. But instead of the 3 Wheeler’s 80bhp V-twin engine, the EV3 is powered by a 62bhp electric motor. The electric motor is fed by a lithium battery and promises a zero-emissions range of 241.40km.

The car features new lightweight carbonfibre composite body panels and weighs in at less than 500kg, despite the addition of a heavy electric powertrain. Morgan claims that the car can go from 0-100kph in less than 9.0 seconds and has a top speed of over 144.84kph.

The interior of the EV3 features a classic ‘magneto’ switch for drive selection, a digital screen and wood, brass and polished aluminium trim.

Aside from the EV3, Morgan has also put a special 80th anniversary edition of its staple 4/4 on display at the Geneva Motor Show. The 4/4 is billed as the longest running production car in the world, having been originally launched in 1936. Just 80 examples of the car will be made, and will feature solid wheels, bespoke paintwork, a side exit sports exhaust, new exterior details and new personalisation options.
