Nissan took the wraps off its latest-gen Sylphy sedan at the Shanghai Motor show 2019. The new Sylphy gets Nissan's latest design language and looks quite similar to the brand's larger and more expensive models like the Altima and Maxima sedans sold abroad.
According to Nissan, the new Sylphy has been carved in such a way that it has a drag coefficient of only 0.26, the same as the powerful Nissan GT-R.
On the inside, the new Sylphy gets an interior that shares bits with the international-spec Kicks, including two display screens that measure 8.0-inch for the infotainment and 7.0-inch for the multi-function display.
The model introduced in China comes with a 139hp 1.6-litre HR16DE engine, combined with a CVT automatic gearbox. In other markets, the new Sylphy could get a 1.8-litre petrol or even a larger 2.0-litre motor that's good for 140hp.
The Sylphy rivals the likes of the Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and the Skoda Octavia, globally. The company was evaluating an India launch of this sedan a few years ago, but the model did not make it to our shores then. There is no news of Nissan bringing the latest-gen Sylphy to India anytime soon. The brand's latest product in India is the Kicks SUV that takes on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Captur and the Mahindra XUV500.
